Borrell: We made a proposal to resolve the situation in northern Kosovo

European Union High Representative Josep Borrell said they have made a proposal to resolve the situation in the north, created following the resignation of Serbian officials from Kosovo institutions.

Borrell before the EU Council of Ministers said the European Bahscation proposal should be discussed as a good way out of this situation.

Kosovo and Serbia have kept me busy. This weekend in Paris I met Prime Minister Kurti President Vuciq. We are unhappy on the eve of another crisis. We need to get out of view of the crisis and seek an approach to the solution. We've submitted a proposal, a proposal that should be discussed as a good way out of this situation. I have had to appeal to both sides to fulfil their vows and to respect commitments to implement past agreements agreed on many years ago and I am looking for a solution”, he said.

The Council of Ministers' work will be extended in two days -- on November 14th and 15th -- while other topics will be discussed. The meeting starts at 10:00 and is held in Brussels.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reiterated that he will not accept single-ethnic association in Kosovo, while he said recent developments should not distract attention from the final agreement with mutual recognition. He has given no indication that he may also withdraw from the decision on the license plates, whose implementation has been requested by the United States and the European Union.

The situation in the north took another direction after members of the Serb community resigned from Kosovo institutions, indicating that they opposed the implementation of the Kosovo Government plan to register cars with Kosovo Republic RKS license plates.
