The world's 8 billionth resident is believed to be a baby born Tuesday after midnight in the Philippines at the Memorial Hospital in Tondo.
As reported by international media, Winice Mabansag, who was born about 1:29 a.m.
By 1974 the population doubled.
According to the UN, it took 12 years for the number to rise from 7 billion to 8 billion.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Organization reports that it will take 15 years for the population to grow to 9 billion.
