Moscow wants to withdraw Afghan elite soldiers who fought alongside American troops during their 20-year stay to join a “foreign legislation”.
Moscow is offering lucrative wages of $1,500 a month and promises safe housing for former soldiers and their families.
Most men fled Afghanistan to neighbouring Iran, following US chaotic withdrawal last year.
They cannot return home because they risk being killed by Taliban.
“They don't want to go to war but have no solution,” said an Afghan general, adding that the commandos he knew were afraid of deportation to Afghanistan.
The recruit is led by the Russian underground mercenaries group Wagner Group, while a former commander of Afghan Special Forces is helping.
It is unclear how many members of Afghan special forces have been withdrawn from the Russians, but according to Ap about 400 commandos investigating the bids.
