An eight-year-old boy from Venezuela was killed after being accidentally shot by his 10-year-old brother, while they were alone at their home in Houston, U.S.A.
The child whose family had been displaced from Venezuela just a few months earlier was playing with his older brother in the only bedroom when the gun went off, wounding him to death in the chest.
According to the Daily Mail, the 13-year-old boy's brother was also inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but was intact and called 911.
These situations are preventable. Children should never have access to weapons. Anything can happen”, said County Sheriff Harris Ed Gonzalez.
Authorities are investigating who owns the hunting weapon and whether it was loaded by one of the brothers. The sheriff confirmed that charges will likely be filed against the parents.
According to ABC13.com, the boys had not enrolled in school since they moved west to Houston, Venezuela, a few months ago. As a parent, no one should pass this. It's terrible that it happens every day. Something has to be done. It's out of control”, a family neighbor said.
