Five European Union member states have not yet recognised Kosovo's independence. And of course, their non-recognition has affected and is continuing to affect Kosovo's integration path. The chief of the EU Office in Pristina, Thomas Szunyog, in an interview for Radio Kosovo has stated that according to discussions it has had with representatives of these states, they expect to have progress in dialogue with Serbia and normalisation of relations between the two states.
“According to what I have seen during my discussions with representatives of the liaison offices of states that have not recognised Kosovo but have their offices in Pristina, they expect to see progress in dialogue with Serbia and normalisation of reports. I think it might affect these countries to see how they're going to go on”, Szunyog has declared.
Meanwhile, recognition of political issues in the country is of the opinion that these countries will recognise Kosovo's independence expect developments in dialogue. But the same consider Kosovo to lobby more. Analyst Dorajet Imeri has told Radio Kosovo that not knowing these European states has so far cost Kosovo much.
The non-recognition of these states will cost Kosovo as it has cost so far. Meanwhile, eventual recognition could occur only after an eventual agreement between Kosovo and Serbia -- at least this is the position of some of the states, especially Spain and Slovakia to some extent and Romania -- have been tough enough in terms of attitude towards Kosovo”, Imer has declared.
The other analyst, Artan Mujajeri, estimates that Kosovo diplomacy must do much to convince these states to recognise the Republic of Kosovo.
Unfortunately, Kosovo diplomacy is not at the right level in terms of lobeing. We see an alliance and lack of dynamism and energy in this ascetics. There is no indicator that the Government of Kosovo is working hard in this regard”, Mujarrier has indicated.
Spain, Romania, Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus are the five European Union member states that have not yet recognised Kosovo's independence. Meanwhile, since the independence declaration 117 countries have recognised Kosovo as independent states. Israel is the last country to have recognised Kosovo's independence two years ago.
