The decision was made known by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who previously met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He said that the stadium where the great tragedy took place will be completely shattered, but then a new one will be built there.
“We have agreed to a complete transformation of Indonesian football. We will break up the stadium and rebuild it according to FIFA standards,” said Widodo.
Tragedy has occurred following the loss of the local weapon club to Perseby Surabaya with a score of 2:3. Thousands of angry Arema fans ran into the field, and police used tear gas against them and caused panic.

Many fled the stadium or drowned.
The tear gas is a measure of control of the banned crowd from FIFA. Next year, Indonesia will host the U-20 World Cup and will need to prepare stadiums to avoid major tragedies in the future.
