Teachers continue to be paid for September, while unionists are waiting for them to be executed by tomorrow. The Education Union has stated that if they are not executed by 5 October, then they will take other measures.
Union Chairman Nundman Jasharaj has said this decision is revenge against the union, while, as he said, the government has violated the law. He claimed he would decide membership for further actions.
We'll ask membership. The strike isn't closed but it's suspended. It's blackmail and a knife behind the back stopping wages, which by violating the laws, tries to dim trade unions”, Jasharaj says.
Meanwhile, the Kosovo Parents' Council has reacted to the failure to execute wages for teachers. Council Chairman Jeton Demi told Radio Kosovo that if the September salaries for teachers are not provided, they will raise funds for them.
We parents should be organised at every school to raise funds of solidarity to help financially assist teachers”, Demi declares Radio Kosovo.
On the salary issue, Minister of Education Arberie Nagavci has also reacted. Through a Facebook post, she has said that although municipalities are responsible for organising pre-university education, they are employers and are obliged to report to the Treasury Department at the Ministry of Finance every month, they have not.
At the request of Finance Minister Iron Murati, we've sent the data we've had to inspectors and officials from visits during September, to schools and kindergartens, with the aim of making pay for them”, Nagavci wrote.
She has stressed that they have discussed with the SBASK's leadership whether to compensate for teachers' salaries as they do in most other countries, and since the law prohibits compensation for unpaid work.
According to Nagavci, there has been no attention and care in this direction until it has said that those who were most damaged by the strikes are students.
“The law must be respected overall. We have promised this, and we keep our promises. We have received the mandate to draft policies to implement them and stop. The compensation will be for the work done”, Nagavci wrote.
