The move comes after United Kingdom Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is on a hastily organised visit to Washington to negotiate with his counterpart and White House officials about common security concerns, including Ukraine and Russia.
As for Mr Putin's virtual meeting with security officials, Kremlin said, in one that it is scheduled to review issues related to the neutralisation of threats to national security in the migration area and regulation of migration processes in the country's interest in socio-economic development and socio-political stability.
It is unclear what exactly is meant by the migration area, but Putin is expected to talk about restrictions on Russian borders.
Russia's Security Council deputy head Dmitry Medvedev will submit a report today, said Kremlin.
The latest meeting of an expanded Security Council was held in May.
