Kurt Re-election VV chairman, analysts criticise elections with only one candidate

The last case where this practice occurred was the Vetevendosje Movement party. The latter reaffirmed Albin Kurt for her chairman.

Political issue acquaintance Albinot Maloku says such a practice is harmful to democracy, and as such should change.

Speaking specifically of the Vetevendosje Movement, Maloku says that with the winning of national elections, the party considered offering a new leader unnecessary.

Now the last elections that took place in the Vetevendosje Movement, I described that they were in total disarray with the fundamental principle of democracy that concerns offering the alternative. Despite the fact that the VV chairman had won the elections on February 14th, and generally this has not seemed to be coming to the top of the VV, starting with the success he had in the election process. The failure of those who have wanted to be part of the election process for local levels has been completely incompatible with democracy”, Maloku said.

Speaking of the election process within the VV, Maloku says the party election has been passed undemocraticly, as there has been little alternative in this process.

“in a race where there is no alternative, it is considered a race that does not meet the true standards of democracy, the system that Kosovo as a whole considers to be its own, and therefore if we are seeking democracy, there is also disgruntled, but this part should not be considered to be considered to have to leave or to be a refusal to accept the final election process. At this level, running with just one mayor, without alternative and within it to be considered democratic if we have a candidate and alternative, yes, No and Abstenim; I consider that this is not in line with democracy”, Maloku said further.

And university professor, Milazim Krasniqi, wants the CEC to be engaged here. He says such practices should stop.

“Unfortunately this is a bad practice and it is not within democratic standards, maybe the blame is also the Central Election Commission that has not created a standard under which the acceptance of legitimate and democratic elections should be made and in the absence of those CEC standards, then parties choose easier forms. Normally we are a society that has come out of conflict, out of a semi-century communist regime, that normally democratic traditions are deficiate and our society and that is in political terms is very indifferent, and all this context political parties, and leaders separately use to solve easily, without counterCandids and without a programme. The same was the re-election of Albin Kurti”, Krasniqi said.

Krasniqi says political parties, though called into a party democracy and in a free speech, cannot be seen at the moment when any of them hold the domestic election process.

He says many elements exist in Vetevendosje Movement.

I've been active at the heavy times of occupation. The truth is that even in that period there were more machitas and no real choices, and then we had every time internal problems in the party, because the moment things weren't filtered out through the election process, then inside parties came into element. So to Vetevendosje today characterize the presence of Social Democrats, anarchists, Enverists, Islamists, and so the moment this isn't filtered out then you have a situation that then in opposition can somehow accommodate those interests but when it's passed on to Government, then problems arise because everyone wants to take their own”, Krasniqi said. / EO
