The trend of reducing the number of students in the Western Balkans can be found everywhere.

But, Albania and Kosovo top the list of states where the largest decline of students in primary schools has been registered for the past two educational-educial cycles.

TRT Balkan analysis, for 2020/21 and 2021/22, shows that the situation in primary education is not better in other countries of the region.

Albania saw 8,348 students

Within a year, the number of students at primary school banks in Albania has been reduced to 8,348 students. The figures in question emerge from the estimate of registered students in 9-year education in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

In the 2020/21 school year in Albania, according to Albania's Statistics Institute, 460,819 students and children have been enrolled in pre-university education. Of them in 9-year education, 286,486 students have been enrolled.

On the other hand in last year's 2021/22 school in registered pre-university education were 453,989 students and children, of whom 278,138 in 9-year education.

5,931 less starters in Kosovo

From the latest data of the Kosovo Statistics Agency, it is understood that Kosovo is one of the countries with the largest reduction in the number of students for a year in the region.
In 2021/22 in Kosovo there were 217,977 students, or 5,931 fewer primary school students than in 2020/21, where the total number of primary school students was 223,908.

3.257 fewer students in BiH

Bosnia and Herzegovina has also faced a sharp decline in the number of students registered throughout the country in recent years.

“in the 2021/2022 school year, 264,802 students in BiH are registered, which is 3,257 fewer students, or 1.2 percent, compared to the previous school year”, say the BiH Statistics Agency.

It has become known that in the 2021/2022 school year, 28,013 students, which is 1.9 percent less than last school year.

primary schools in Serbia saw 3,249 students

The number of students in primary education in Serbia has dropped year after year. Serbia's State Statistics Ent, we talk that in the 2020/21 school year, there were 510,576 students, of whom 248,452 girls. Since this number was reduced to more than three thousand students last year, 3.249 students, respectively. Based on statistical data in 2021/22 in primary schools in Serbia, 507,372 students have learned.

Initial education without 900 students in northern Macedonia

Ungood situation with the number of students in elementary schools does not prevail even in northern Macedonia. Exactly 187,555 students according to the State Statistics Administration have developed primary school classes in 2020/21. Meanwhile, 900 fewer students were in the 2021/22 school year. Official statistical data says that during this school year (2021/22) in northern Macedonia in primary education there has been 186.649.

470 More Students in Montenegro

Unlike other countries in the region, there are minimal increases in the number of pupils in elementary schools in Montenegro. Based on data from Montenegro's Ministry of Education, in 2020/21 school year in this Western Balkan state, there were 68,506 initials, responsible for last year (2021/22) the number of pupils has increased by 470 more and has numbered 68,976.
