Iranian students have clashed with security forces at a university in Tehran, following the wave of protests that have been sparked by the death of a 22-year-old girl while in custody, human rights groups have reported.
Mahsa Ammin died on September 16th, days after being detained by the Moral Police on the assumption that he did not properly decide the cover on his head. Her death has sparked the biggest protests in Iran in the last three years.
More concerns have increased over violence, as police officials have clashed at Sharif University at night with hundreds of students, using tear gas. “Gra, life, freedom”, students have been screaming, as well as “students prefer death to humiliation”, Iranian news agency Mehr reported.
The New York-based Human Rights Centre has said it is extremely concerned about the recordings that have emerged from protests near the university, where the crackdown on protesters is seen, and that the detainees are being covered in cloths until they withdraw from protests”.
The Mehr news agency has said that “Sharif University has warned students that due to recent developments, lectures Monday will be virtually”. Due to the riots that began on September 16th, dozens of protesters have been killed and thousands more have been injured. / REL/
