Haxhiu made these comments during the organisation's Women for Vetevendosje Council meeting.
A series of decisions involving criminal code and criminal procedure have been adopted. We have made changes to those who are found guilty of domestic violence or sexual abuse will be prohibited from employing public institutions, whether locally or centrally, banned from candidates in positions, access to driving, and there will be no extenuating circumstances for violators. Treatment of these subjects will not last more than a year, and the names of violators will be published on the official page of the Kosovo Judicial Council”, she said, adding that the Government is supporting women.
“Support for women's employment has benefited 3571 working women and 1490 working businesses. 22.00. Women in politics will be the opportunity to improve the status of girls and women, while women without jobs and employees are treated with dignity at home, at work, in the neighbourhood, in the village, during the heritage division, registration on behalf of women, competitions on both local or central level, or in private company” she spoke.
Haxhiu said women for self-rule have come as an organization to empower women and to have impact on our society.
She also pointed to new reforms in the justice system, where women will have many rights they did not have before. As justice minister, she indicated that reforms that will affect women and girls especially because after decisions women will not wait years for a decision related to inheritance, property, divorce and child custody or and protection of their identity to violence.
I believe women have heard enough men is the time to listen to LVV women and girls. We've started reforms in the justice system, but this will affect women and girls especially. Women will not wait years to make a decision related to heritage, property, divorce, custody of children or protection of their dignity in cases of physical, psychic, sexual or material violence against them... So far we have adopted the national strategy against domestic violence, functional the ministerial group against domestic violence, we have helped the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo in drafting the law on protection from domestic violence. This year, changes related to granting free legal assistance to girls and women victims of violence have come into effect, and we have eliminated bureaucratic procedures for compensation of crime victims. For the first time, the state protocol for sexual rape treatments and the document on dealing with rapists” is being drafted, she said.
The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, also attended this meeting, where he said that women and young people are the most important topics on society and must be more devoted.
“Political subjects must create more ground for youth, more platforms and opportunities for them. We as LVV have thought this through the founding of the Youth Organisation for Vetevendosje. RVV will increase the speed of movement, while the movement will increase the base of youth. Our prospects for our movement and society will expand, we need equal policy, but also organisation”, he concluded.
According to him, in recent parliamentary elections women have managed to reap unimaginable successes a few years ago.
Two important points that even us as Vetevendosje Movement have prompted us to reflect that we need new spaces, opportunities and structures for women's engagement. The first is beyond the passage of gender quota, not one woman to the parliamentary group on the LV list, in the assembly of the Republic, thanks to the quota. All they are here because citizens have wanted to be there and the second is that 62 per cent of our votes are of women voters, this is unprecedented in Kosovo and post-war in the region even wider. Last February 14th parliamentary elections have been a multiple lesson for us. Except that the plebiscitary movement of women has been voted and the women's voting within our list, which exceeded the quota, was evidence that the people from whom it has exceeded us and the minimum we have to do is follow the people... The minimum we can make to follow the people, because the people have leaders”, he said.
The Vetevendosje movement from now on will have the Women's Council and the Youth Council. / KP/
