“The German-German model works for Kosovo and Serbia, only needs to adjust the 2007 draft”

German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger in an interview for T7 Pressing has said some of the principles of the German-German model continue to be valid today.

Ischinger says such an idea has worked in the container of two Germans and there is no reason not to work in the context of reports between Kosovo and Serbia.

He says the draft agreement that was delivered in 2007 should only be adopted for the 2022 situation. Meanwhile, it re-exerts that there is already an active involvement of the government of Germany and France.

Look, this was 14 years ago. And of course today is different from 14 years ago. But some of the fundamental principles behind the German-German model continue to be important today. The idea that if you cannot solve state affairs right now, the issue of formal recognition, at least try to resolve other practical issues. As humans can move across borders, or are known diplomats, car signs. What about trade. And this worked in the German-German context and there is no reason it could not function in the context of Kosovo-Serbia reports. But certainly the draft agreement we have made in 2007 should be adopted for the 2022 situation, in one way or another, and certainly now there is a new effort of my government and France to push things forward and it is very important to know that France is actively participating in these efforts. I don't know that France in the past, years and decades, has been so active and actively involved, so it's good”, Ischinger said.

He says that the two German models have a fundamental principle of reciprocity, that each side should have responsibility like the other. He says this is an old diplomatic recipe for finding a balanced solution.
