An AP team said it had seen troops of at least 18 Russian soldiers on the ground.
The Ukrainian Army appears to have gathered its friends' troops after fierce battles for Lyman's control, the team added.
A Ukrainian soldier who called himself Rud said that “We fight for our land, for our children, so that our people can live better, but all this has a very high price of”.
