After the US, EU also urges Kurt to extend deadlines

European Union spokesman Peter Stano has confirmed that the EU requires Kosovo institutions, which for 10 months will extend the registration deadline for Serbian license plates. Although it claims that Kosovo's decision to reregister plates is legitimate, according to Stanos, it is important that sufficient time be given to implement this plan, prepare and apply in close consultation with citizens there, and in line with European practices.
“Movement Freedom Consultations from 2016 included timelines for re-registering, which should provide instructions. Therefore, since the beginning of this process, we have recommended to the Government of Kosovo that a 12-month period for reregisteration be established. Following the same reasoning, we are now seeking from the Kosovo government to extend the existing 10 months”, Stano has confirmed in a written response.
That extent, according to him, would enable a more substantial and comprehensive information campaign and consultations with the affected population.
At the same time, Stano claims, this would enable Kosovo to issue all Kosovo Serbs in the north to issue identification and driver's license.
“needs to be avoided escalation of tensions and potentially violence in northern Kosovo. This is of particular importance in the current geopolitical context, in the function of maintaining stability in the region”, European Union spokesman Peter Stano has ordered. / RTK/
