Escobar in Belgrade: Waiting for dynamics of dialogue

The United States' envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said he expects dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia for normalising relations to continue “in a dynamic and constructive manner”. This is important both for citizens and for peace, stability and overall progress in the region”, Escobar said.

He made comments in Belgrade after meeting with Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, the Serbian Presidency announced.

Vuciq, on the other hand, said he had “important conversations with the senior American diplomat.

In his Instagram account, Vucic said “has been talked about all current developments” and open issues” in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

He said he has insisted on the “full implementation of the agreements reached so far”, as well as international law.

Serbia, as a serious, reliable and responsible country, continues to fight for the preservation of its people and country, making maximum efforts to preserve peace and stability, as well as for the progress of the entire region”, Vuciq said.

Escobar is staying in the Serbian capital a day after the visit to Kosovo.

He is expected to meet with Serbia's prime minister, Ana Brnabiq, and the director of the Office for Kosovo in Serbia's Government, Petar Petkovic.

In Pristina on Wednesday, he met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and representatives of the opposition.

Kosovo and Serbia, with the European Union's mediation and US support, have been in negotiations on normalising relations since 2011.

They have reached dozens of agreements, but the implementation of the majority has stalled.

The last high-level meeting, respectively between Kurti and Vucinqi, was held in August.

Speaking to a local television on Wednesday in Kosovo, Escobar said reaching a road agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is a matter of weeks.

After separate meetings with Escobar, Osman and Kurti said Kosovo is a constructive party in dialogue and that it is ready for reaching an agreement with Serbia, with mutual recognition at the centre. /rel
