Besim Hoti, deputy director of regional police in the country's north, has said Sunday that the situation is generally stable.
Meanwhile, the head of the Centre for car registration in North Mitrovica, Ardita Ademi, has said that on Monday they will receive precise information about how it will be done on November 1st when the implementation of the warning move comes into force. They don't know what the “penal size means at this center”.
The Kosovo government has scaled the decision on plates. Starting on November 1st, by November 21st, the measure will be the one to blame, then from November 21st for two months, until January 21st, it will be the penalty measure, and then on January 21st, there will be test plates for two more months, after which the date on April 21st can no longer have illegal plates on circulation.
Otherwise, last night the European Union through a media communique expressed disappointment after the Kosovo government failed to listen to the bloc's and the United States' advice on extending the deadline for converting the license plates issued by Serbia with those of Kosovo for 10 months.
In the EU's response, it is said that Kosovo has the right to gradually remove old license plates “but that the process should be conducted in the agreed manner in dialogue and implemented in a comprehensive and consultative manner”.
Despite the criticism that came yesterday and today from local and international politicians, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has considered the decision on illegal plates in the north legitimate.
He says the decision is in full compliance with the Brussels Agreement and in line with the international community's positions for order and law.
The government approved the gradual implementation of the policy of illegal plates announced in June, which our international partners confirm is fully in line with the Brussels agreement. The implementation decision guarantees rule of the law on the one hand, and peace and security on the other”, Kurti said.
Otherwise, US State Department spokesman Ned Price has said that the United States, along with international partners, has sought to extend the period of implementation of the new license regime for 10 months. / RTK/
