Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce: Kosovo companies getting workers from abroad, will have problems

The chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Economics, Lulzim Rafuna, has said that from his arrival to OEK, he has made a meeting with the country's leading institutions by addressing business requirements. He added that requests put forward to various ministries have been addressed with very high priorities, which, according to him, is [...]
He added that requests that have been put forward to various ministries have been addressed with very high priorities, which according to him is also very good news for businesses.
I as chairman of Oda, as the state protocol requires, have addressed the requirements through the country's institutions, the first meeting I have concluded with the Chief Parliament, he has expressed his support to help businesses through the Parliament's commissions. Depending on the demands of the incoming businesses we have had requests for certain ministries and I can honestly say that they have been treated with very high priorities, that is very good news, even businesses themselves have seen that the relevant minister has responded to the requirements and we hope that there is co-operation to deepen”.
On the other hand, Rafuna expressed his concern over the Strategic Investment Law, he said that this law is a problem for a strategic investor and that it should be changed urgently.
I believe the Strategic Investment Law has not achieved its goal for what has been brought. The procedures within that law, which envisions some extended deadlines, itself, are a major problem for a strategic investor to come and through that law enter Kosovo, because a strategic investor coming to invest billions in Kosovo does not waste time passing through various law procedures. This law should be urgently changed, we as the Economic Ode will have within Oda a sector that will be for foreign investment” he said.
Rafuna added that the problem in Kosovo is also the lack of workers, as according to him young people are leaving the country because of a better life.
He added that the most concerned sectors from this phenomenon are the construction sector, gastronomy and production sector.
Rafuna said that from the lack of workers, huge problems will arise to businesses which, according to him, will be forced to import labour powers from abroad.
“The most concerned sectors for lack of workers are the construction sector, gastronomy and production sector, these are the three sectors that have shown us great concern for the shortage of workers. Why are workers running away, the first reason because they're looking for a better life, the second we have to work hard with the institutions of the country to have a new strategy on how to prevent the escape of youth” Rafuna” said.
“Problems will be shown in the absence of workers, because companies will be forced to reshuffle, forced to import labour power from other countries. Already they have begun to come, especially from Turkey with imported labour power, which is not a solution to business” he said. / EO
