Globo Esporte obtained court files and reported that Lopes had abused four athletes, one of whom is a 13-year-old child who filed a lawsuit.
The media does not specify names or genders, but add that more than 40 gymnasts have reported abuses by the same coach between 1999 and 2016. The case was discovered in 2016, when the aforementioned minor victim told parents of the coach's improper behavior, after which others appeared either as witnesses or victims.
Lopes was dismissed from the Brazilian Federation of Gymnastics, and in 2020 he was banned from any professional sports activity.
Lopes still guards his innocence.
