US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has called on Pristina and Belgrade to resolve the license plate issue peacefully.
This is approaching October 31st, which is also the deadline for changing plates with the initials of Serbia's cities from the pre-war period, could be used in Kosovo and Serbia, but have not yet yielded results.
State Department spokesman Ned Price was asked about Secretary Blinken's message to Pristina and Belgrade, given that the October 31st deadline is fast approaching for mediating the license agreement on license plates, as he reaffirmed US support for Serbia-Kosovo talks.
Our message about this has been consistent. We fully support the facilitated dialogue by the EU”, Price said.
Price, among other things, said Blinken has also spoken with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, said both called for continued commitment to ensure peace and stability, Klakosova reported.
“This is why Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabel Escobar was in Pristina and Belgrade to support this process. As you know, the Secretary himself has been deeply involved in this. He spoke with Serbian President Vuciq and Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti earlier this month, on 11 October, I believe it was. He underlined our support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue facilitated by the EU. It called for continued constructive commitment to ensure peace and stability throughout the region”, Price said.
On the other hand, Price said there is hope that the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia can be reached.
We will continue to support that EU dialogue. We will continue to be partners both for Kosovo and for Serbia in the hope that they can resolve this dispute peacefully during the days following”, Price told The Pavlovic Today.
The most recent talks between Belgrade and Pristina saw an inevitable stalemate, and the hope of mutually acceptable solutions was dim. What all behind the scenes agree on is that strong US involvement is what is needed.
