Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis player expelled from Australia, has congratulated Rafael Nadal on winning the 21st record career title after the triumph in an epic final against Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open on Sunday.
Nadal, number 6 in the world, returned from 0:2 in sets to win 3:2, 2-6 6-7 (5) 6-4 7-5, in the most epic way against the number two of the world from Russia to Melbourne.
Medvedev had the game in his hand, completely dominant in the first two sets before Nadal displayed the great fighting spirit to cross it in five sets.
Nadal was not sure if he would return to the tennis field after serious leg injury.
The Australian Open 2022 triumph means Nadal now has more grand solam titles than Roger Federer and Novak Djokovici, who have 20 each.
Djokovic had arrived in Australia on January 6th, hoping to defend his title at the Australian Open and overcoming rivals Nadal and Federer.
But Serbia's 34-year-old tennis player was expelled from Australia because he was not vaccinated against Coddy-19.
In a response to social networks after the match, Djokovic wrote: “Urim Rafael Nadal for the 21st grand som. Amazing achievement. Always the awesome warrior spirit that triumphed again”.
