Morrison said nobody's above the rules, so even Djokovic has been denied visas.
The prime minister said that as a result of respecting these rules, Australia has one of the lowest levels of deaths in the world by COVID-19.
“Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. Nobody's above these rules. Our strong border policies have been critical for Australia to have one of the lowest levels of deaths in the world by COVID, we are continuing to be vigilant”, Morrison wrote.
Australia has cancelled its visas to tennis player Novak Djokovic and intends to expel him as of tomorrow, while his lawyers are expected to appeal about the decision.
He was allowed to enter Australia and compete at the “Australian Open” without being vaccinated.
As a result of his attorneys' appeal that is expected to happen soon, there is one last chance that tennis will become part of the race.
The Australia Open” begins on January 17th. So far, tennis player has stayed at Melbourne Airport, while his father has said that if Serbian tennis is expelled from Australia, street protests will begin.
They're holding my son captive. If they don't release him in half an hour, we will fight them on the” road, he said.
The Serbian tennis player was not allowed to enter Australia because his team applied for the wrong visa, according to Australian media.
Also, Djokovic is not vaccinated against Covid-19, however, this has not been confirmed so far by Serbian tennis.
Despite the rules, Djokovic received prior permission from the “Australian Open” through a medical exception.
Serbia's president, Alexander Vuciq, has also been involved in the event. He has said Serbia will fight for Novak Djokovic.
“I told our Novak that all of Serbia is with him and that our authorities are taking all measures to stop the world's best tennis harassment at a shorter time. In line with all international public law norms, Serbia will fight for Novak Djokovic, for justice and truth”, Vuciq has written.
