Greek media today have published photos from the site of the event as well as the prison corridors when Carel was being sent to the torture rooms.
In this regard, 14 people were brought to judgment. The trial, called in 2016, was postponed, and 6 were later sentenced to 5 years in prison, three others up to 6 years in prison, while the jailer and one of the guards were sentenced to 7 years in prison.

97 minutes in what was named “freefer” of the prison tortured Ilia Karel to death at the time of 42 years. He could survive after seven and a half hours. Carel was sent to this room at 15:40 p.m. and found dead at 23:15, while he was not exempt from dying earlier than he was found lifeless.
Carel was raped earlier. He was sent to his cell to the point of barely standing.
It is alleged that the rioting of the prison guards came after the murder of their colleague a few days before the incident in the Malandrino prison, in a moment of tension for refusing permission. Carel had stabbed George Zironis with multiple wounds and therefore passed away.
