Algerian Juist Feti Nurin and his coach Amar Benihlef have been suspended for 10 years each after they withdrew from the Tokyo Olympic Games because they did not want to fight against the Israeli opponent.
Nurin, who was to fight in the 73kg category, refused to compete against the Israelites because of his political support for Palestine.
The Judo International Federation reported that Nurin and Benihlef used the Olympic Games “as a platform for protest and promotion of political and religious propaganda”, the BBC reported, broadcast Democracy.com.
The statement says it is a clear and serious “violation of the International Federation of wrestling statute, the code of ethics and the Olympic statute for this, and has received severe condemnation.
It was suspended until July 23, 2031. Judith and coach have the right to appeal the verdict to the Court of Arbitrazhi Sports in Lozanne.
