After 285 days outside the field due to severe ligament injuries, the Dutch played 20 minutes in Liverpool's 4-3 defeat against Hertha Berlin on 29 July.
Van Dijk was widely regarded as the world's best pre-injury centre, and Jurgen Klopp would hope he will be at his 100 per cent when the new season begins, on August 14th, broadcast Periscopi.
