The Guardian has collected evidence from Afghan asylum seekers and documented 60 illegal expulsions between August 16th and 29th by Croatian police.
Any deportation is a violation of the University Declaration of Human Rights, Geneva conventions and EU legislation, such as stops for individuals to apply for asylum, Periscope follows.
The alleged deportations were made after the announcement that the Taliban had taken control of the government.
Albania has taken thousands of Afghans, while Kosovo has over 250 people.
According to victims, these deportations include violent and brutal behavior, degrading treatment, theft, and destruction of personal things.
We have been deported 12 times to the Croatian border. They stole our money and phones,” said Zihaul al-Haqq, 25 years old from Baghdad in Afghanistan.
Hundreds of Afghan families have been blocked at the border between Croatia and Bosnia, in Bihac and in Bosanska Boyna.
They are living with their children in abandoned buildings without water or electricity.
Charges of deportations and violence caused by Croatian police are not new. For years, various foundations have denounced the Croatian state in many cases. /Periscope
