Prime Minister Edi Rama in a CNN interview with journalist Bianna Golodryga confirmed that Albania's decision to accommodate Afghan citizens is not related to religious issues.
He stressed that if the EU and the US were not to be found in this situation for this people, withdrawing, Albania added, it was forced to provide shelter.
Journal: Most of the Albanian population is Muslim. This country is not overly religious in itself. You're Catholic. I'm curious what the connection between these Afghans is to itself, Muslims that line from an oppressive regime that returns to Afghanistan. How much impact does this have on your decision and on the responsibility that you feel to welcome them?
Rama: I'm Catholic. My Muslim wife. Two big kids are Orthodox. We have a smaller one that can choose to be Jewish belongs to him. This is about people, not labels related to colors, culture, beliefs. Once again it's about people who believed what we believed in what we believed in for 30 years ago in red Taliban, where we fled hell. It went well for us to be in the middle of Europe. If the EU and the US are not found, withdrawing, at least we owe you shelter. We owe them. Not just for them, but it's about our kids' generations. How will we be viewed if we leave these people in the earth? What will happen if we preach the idealism and values that we have promoted.
