These metals are used in electronic devices that are destroyed on a global scale each year.
The project began two years ago and included 90 percent of Japan's cities and villages, which created places for obtaining old electronic donations or equipment.
For the people of Japan, the project offered a unique opportunity to be part of the games by collecting materials that produced about 5,000 bronze, silver and gold medals.
The recycling campaign produced 22 pounds [32 kg] of gold, 3,493 kg of silver, and 2,200 pounds [2,200 kg] of brass - all 80 tons of equipment.
