It was reported that he left Afghanistan's capital on Sunday with four cars and a helicopter full of cash and had been forced to leave a lot of money on the street because he had room for them.
On Wednesday, Afghan Ambassador to Tajikistan claimed that the 72-year-old fled $169m from state funds and urged international police to arrest him.
Mohammad Zahir Aghbar claims that President “stole $160m from the state ark” and described his flight as “a betrayal of the state and nation”.
Meanwhile, in a broadcast on his official Facebook account, Ghan said he was forced to leave the country in order to prevent bloodshed.
He says he left with the advice of government officials.
