A year of suspicious deaths in Infective, family wants the truth, but the prosecution has still closed the investigation.

At dawn on July 5, 2020, six patients lost their lives in a short period of time at the Infectious Clinic while being treated by COVID-19. Tomorrow comes a year from that event, but the prosecution has not yet completed the investigation. Tomorrow comes a year from that event, but the prosecution has not yet completed the investigation. Family members seek to understand the truth about what happened, while Health Minister Arben Vitita said justice will be served.

The first doubts about this serious event were in the malfunction of the infectious oxygen system. The Basic Prosecutor's Crime Department in Pristina had launched investigations immediately.

Information officer close to this institution, Laureta Ulaj, says investigations into the case have not yet been completed.

We can inform you that the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina-Department of the Randa Crimes has not yet completed the investigation regarding this case, so it continues to be in investigative procedure”, she said.

Dzafer Fazliu, 70, from Mitrovica was one of the victims of that night. He was lying on Wednesday, July 1, and his children were waiting for him to be released from the hospital on Monday. They were shocked to hear news Sunday morning that his father no longer lives.

His daughter, Arben, who lives in Sweden, says that they want to understand the truth about what happened. She says that her father, despite his old age, did not have any accompanying diseases. Fazliu also criticises institutions for playing with her father's body and their feelings as family members.

There was something about it because I was 24 hours in Infective, brother and I were both at all times, we were told that it was doing well and that Monday it was coming out ( from the hospital) when Sunday we were told it was dead. We were shocked to say the truth because we didn't expect him because he was lying there on Wednesday and he died Sunday. We've made a request we've been told that 6 to 7 months should wait, but it takes a long time because it's not just my parent's body, it goes longer, so we've given them a year's time. We've been waiting to see now. We like his kids aren't asking for anything big, we just want to know if it really happened that his oxygen stopped or what's in question with him because with his body five days, don't let him bury her, not today and not tomorrow, she wasn't a game, they've been playing with our feelings that we've been familiar with, with his body has played as they wanted, they've played but it's been very painful for us. We're not even asking for money, we're not for anything, we're just wanting to day for the reason why it went that way, go-rap-rap”, she said.

The Arbetore says it will soon come to Kosovo and knock on the doors of all institutions to seek justice for father's death.

From Legal Medicine, she said they only received a letter saying her father was affected by COVID-19, but it does not contain other details.

Whatever news we didn't get, we're on hold, Dad makes them one year we hope to get some answers. We have only been given what was affected by COVID, but has oxygen been forbidden, or has it died from it, or from what has not yet come to us? Next week we will be in Kosovo and we hope that without calling them we will be given an answer, but we have planned as family to go to the courts, the prosecutor, to look for the answer for what reason, why they haven't asked us when there's been an obsession, it would be better if they hadn't done anything (induce), they took the body, and they haven't given us”, she said.

The Kosovo Patients' Association is disappointed with the prosecution's negligence in the case. The head of this association, Besim Kodra, says it is not fair to family members who expect answers because of the death of their relatives.

According to him, a year later, Pristina Constitutional Prosecutorship should have pressed charges or at least clarifying that the event did not take place as a result of human negligence.

For us it's been quite a sad event that we have doubts that human actions have been able to cause the death of patients and that's something to regret and I've expected that by now at least we have something concrete, at least have an indictment or something if someone is really guilty. The absence of an indictment or a verdict to release the prosecution, if it has not already occurred as a result of human action, it is the same for us, or the procrastination of this process, which is not fair even for the victims' families, since they have the right to know whether they died from human or not. On the other hand, it is not human even for those who could potentially be charged because they too can live in anxiety and perhaps not blame”, Kodra said.

Current Health Minister Arben Vitita, who by the time the event took place was in opposition, said he is informed that the investigative process is continuing.

He promises there will be justice for all six victims of July 5, 2020.

And as far as I'm aware of this is the question that is in the process, and of course, the justice organs have their own flow of cases and I'm pretty sure they're dealing with this issue, and I'm sure whatever the problem that justice has happened is going to be put to place”, Vitia said.

Following the serious event of July 5, 2020, the then opposition had demanded the resignation of Health Minister Andmendi Zemaj. But, the Ministry of Health itself, in a response, had demanded that the results of the investigation be expected, which even today after a year are still unknown.
