EU fines 875m euros BMW and VW, which is how Mercedes saved

Much of the 502m-euro fine will be paid by the VW, despite being given a 45 per cent drop in co-operation with investigators. BMW is fined the remaining 373m euros.

The Commission wrote a letter to car producers to give instructions on what kind of discussions are allowed to hold contestants, including discussions on setting standards and joint positions on legislation.
The commission decided not to follow some of the initial charges against companies, under which they co-ordinated “to avoid, or at least delay” introducing a new kind of filter into gasoline cars. Brussels said “evidence was insufficient” to prove this charge.
