Arjen Robben officially announced his retirement from professional football.
The 37-year-old Dutch explorer had initially retired after leaving Bayern Munchen in the summer of 2019, but had made a comeback a year later to help his childhood club FC Groningen. However, the injuries kept Robben from playing an appropriate season in his place, and he was limited to only seven presentations throughout the year.
Robben issued a statement saying: “Seeing last season, I must come to the honest conclusion that the number of minutes of the match was disappointing. ”
I knew in advance that this could happen, but I took the challenge and gave everything to make it work. And not only me, everyone inside the club and in my own narrow environment has helped and supported me at all times. I also am not immune to warm reactions and support from all football fans. ”
It was frustrating to see Robben come to his local team once again in an effort to help them, and it was also sad to see that it didn't work very well.
However, Robben's legacy will not be tarnished because he hangs his boots once and for all.
Robben had a career full of stars to this point, starting his career in the Netherlands with Groningen and P. SV Eindhoven was transferred to Chelsea. After three years in London, he changed one capital for another as he moved to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Two seasons later, he left Spain and arrived at Bayern Munich, a move he described as the best decision of his life.
He spent the next ten years holding the number 10 and placing it as a real Bayer legend. His main career event came in 2013, when he scored the winning goal against Borussia Dortmund in the U final EFA Champions League.
Robben also had a very successful international career, being activated by the Netherlands 96 times, and leading his country into two semifinals of the World Cup in a row. /Periscopi
