The aim of the action, which took place on June 29th, was to break up an organised criminal group dealing with smuggling of migrants and document fraud, the EUROOPOL reports today.
These criminal networks, they say, have enabled the illegal entry of more than 400 Albanian citizens into the United Kingdom and the United States.
During the action, counterfeit, financial, illegal activity records, electronic equipment, money, and various types of drugs (kanabis, cocaine, and synthetic drugs) were searched and confiscated in two houses.
According to EUROOPOL, since 2019, there has been an increasing use of some forged documents by immigrants from the Western Balkans.
They also stress that in previous phases of the investigation, criminal groups were identified on the Caribbean island of Saint Maarten, who smuggled Albanian immigrants into counterfeit documents in the United States.
At the same time, couriers travelling to Kosovo and Albania to distribute counterfeit documents were also arrested in December last year.
They also claim that in March of this year, four printing presses for counterfeit documents in Kosovo were confiscated.
“So far, the investigation has gone to 46 arrests, more than 400 identities of migrants at airports and the seizure of 1,000 false documents,”, they said in a statement.
The EUROOPOL states their officials co-ordinated the investigation, facilitated the exchange of information and offered analytical and criminal support.
