Rio Ferdinand believes that Gareth Southgate made a mistake by selecting Manchester United Harry Maguire's captain in his England team for the next European Championship.
Maguire was chosen as one of the four central defenders, along with John Stones, Conor Coade and Tyrone Mings, although both Kyle Walker and Reece James have operated there as part of a three-protective system.
The 28-year-old has been out of action with a leg-key damage, and Southgate has acknowledged that he is a suspect of England's first team match against Croatia, Periscope broadcasts.
“will be close for the first match, no doubt,” said Southgate
He's such a good player and because we've had the additional size of the team, we've been trying to use that opportunity to bring him to team”
However, Ferdinand said that “does not make sense” to choose Maguire when he is not fully in the proper physical state, telling him P ESIVE: “Anglia needed another central protector. That tells me he [softgate] is playing with three defenders.
Harry Maguire isn't even capable, I wouldn't even take Maguire. /Periscopi
