In an interview for Euronews Serbia, Rama has underlined that the parties should focus on the future to resolve past problems permanently. However, the final decision, according to him, belongs to the political class in Pristina and not to official Tirana.
“First, this is a very complicated issue in terms of legal content. Second, I think and I've said it publicly, in the talks and I'm telling you, we should focus on solving this conflict and the future. And we need to think more about how many years we can keep losing by not solving this conflict. There are no winners without solutions. Genocide is a very well defined word in human judicial architecture, and I think it would be not an initiative that would bring results, which would help peace and co-operation, but it is an independent decision of them and not of mine or of Albanians”, Rama said.
Asked whether he would back the indictment if Kosovo asks him to, Rama has suggested that the Kosovo side, despite the autonomous right to decide, must first follow a path of consultations with its allies and partners.
We've been very clear, more than once. The Albanian Parliament has adopted many resolutions in its history and the last thing to say, and it is very important, is that we do not live in a world where we are alone. So we have partners and allies. Kosovo itself is a new reality that is the result of major efforts inside and outside Kosovo. So this kind of great idea or major decisions should not be taken just because someone thinks so, but should be taken through a clear path of consultations and listening to partners and allies and until today I have not heard anyone support this idea. I'm talking partners and allies”, he added.
Responding to Euronews Serbia's interest, Rama has stressed that the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU and that, according to him, they must co-operate to overcome their differences.
