Barcelona desperately seeks to keep the Argina on the team but is facing major financial difficulties, reports the BBC, translates Periscope.
The club has said they have a 1.2 billion-euro debt, and Thebes estimates Barcelona is responsible for about 50% of the 700m euros lost that have been accumulated in the two Spanish football leagues this year.
Barca has already signed the Manchester City doubles, Kun Agueron and Eric Garcien, as well as Memphis DePay from Lyon.
Still, carrying the Mess was the main goal of Barcelona's new president, Joan Laporte.
“I hope they can keep the Mess. But we will not change the rules [for them to do so]. We can't have a special regulation for Barcelona or Mess. ” he added.
