Opposition leader Yair Lapid won the no-confidence motion in Knesset, Israel's parliament, with 60-59 seats, reports The Guardian.
Lapid will not initially become prime minister. Instead, under a power-sharing agreement, his former enemy and extreme right lawyer, Naphtali Bennett, will be crowned as the country's leader.
Bennett, who has ruled out the concept of the state of Palestine and wants Israel to keep control of all lands, will be prime minister for the first two years of a four-year term before Lapid is handed over.
Described as “the government of change” mix of politicians opposed ideologically by Jewish religious nationalists will later swear in parliament on Sunday.
