Despite reports, not everything has been agreed, but in the last 24 hours the club has increased the emergency level shown in previous weeks, with a desire to announce the deal before the start of next month.
The captain's renovation is the new president's top priority, Joan Laporta, and he is currently negotiating it directly with father and striker representative Jorge Messi.
To be able to keep the Argentinean, the club will have to reduce the wage bill by about 200m euros and meet the requirements of the La League Financial Play.
Laporta is happy to offer 34-year-old attackers a new two-year agreement, and this is expected to be accepted by Messi.
