European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varj is expected to visit Western Balkan countries over the next week.
He is expected to begin his visit by staying in Serbia on Monday in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia, while on Wednesday he will visit Albania and Kosovo, the European Commission's announcement said.
During the visits, Varj will meet officials of Balkan countries where the answer to the pandemic and the European Union's support in the matter will be considered.
I travel to the Balkans to broadcast the clear message that we take care of partners and health workers and injured categories. The shipment of vaccines confirms the continuation and commitment of support, which we've been doing since the beginning of the pandemic. Together we are stronger”, Varj said.
The European Commission and Austria on April 20th published that they will send 651,000 doses of vaccines from Pfhizer and Bitonek companies from early May until August, they should introduce medical personnel to the first line of war against the virus and injured groups.
The vaccines are financed by the 70m-euro fund, which the Commission approved in December 2020 for covering the loss of the vaccines' delivery.
The EU from the beginning of the pandemic has acted decisively, mobilised 3.3 billion euros in assistance to the region, in response to the health crisis and reduced economic and social impact.
Through it, the package had essential equipment, such as masks, respiratory machines, ambulances, tests, and so on.
Supply with vaccine “is a clear expression of European solidarity for Balkan partners whose future is in the EU, says the European Commission's statement.
