The marriage took place in a small “cereemon on Saturday afternoon, a Downing Street spokesman said.
The spokesman added that the couple would celebrate again with family and friends next summer, with their honeymoon also delayed by then.
The prime minister has already returned to work. He is the first prime minister to get married while in office in nearly 200 years.
“Mail on Sunday” reported that 30 guests were invited to the ceremony in a brief announcement: the maximum number allowed under COVID restrictions in England.
A small number of church officials were involved in preparations for the Catholic ceremony, which was directed by Father Daniel Humphreys.
Johnson (56) likes to avoid talking about his private life. He has refused to answer questions on the subject in recent years.
Only one official photograph was released the day after the wedding showing the couple in the garden at Downing Street 10 hours after the ceremony.
However, conservative MP James Cleverly shared various photos of newly married people enjoying the garden's reception in Saturday's sun, with decorations and a refreshing drink table visible in the background.
Downing Street did not reveal any details of who was invited and whether any of Johnson's cabinet colleagues were among the guests.
Some politicians have congratulated the couple, including Interior Secretary Priti Patel, Health Secretary Matt Hancock, Minister for Vacinja Nadhim Zahawi and Labour and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey.
Very happy Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds. Wanting both of you very much love and happiness,” wrote Patel on Twitter.
Symond's wedding dress was created by Christos Costarllos, who studied at the School of Fashion in London and describes his work as “inspired by the spirit of ancient Greek philosophy”
The last British prime minister to get married while on duty was Robert Banks Yankeeson in 1822.
Mrs Johnson worked in the press office of the Conservative Party, which was joined in 2010. She became the leader of the party's communication before leaving in 2018 to work on public relations with the organisation on sea conservation, Oceana.
The couple were contacted in early 2019, and in February 2020, they discovered that they had been engaged and that she was pregnant. Their son, Wilfred, was born last April.
Johnson and his former wife, Marina Wheeler, announced in 2018 that they had divorced after 25 years of marriage.
Boris Johnson had previously married Allegra Mostyn-Owen.
