Barcelona had joined Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal as the main clubs in promoting the creation of the new league for five years.

Initial discussions on a possible Superleague began to take shape during the 2015/16 season, and they led Sunday's announcement of 12 clubs that had signed the deal for a new tour, which would be cut off from the Champions League.

However, those plans failed after clubs withdrew as a result of sharp criticism and reactions from fans and the players themselves.

Goal has learned that the talks had started during the 2015/16 season, with several elite clubs trying to find a way to create a possible race where only the largest world clubs would participate.

However, those talks did not go too far, because the European Club Association and U EFA removed those clubs before the talks became something more concrete.

But Bartholomew put pressure on Superman to live, joining forces with Andrea Agnelli, Juventus' president and the president of the European Club Association at the time.

They were joined by Florentino Perez of Real Madrid and Manchester Unitedi and Arsenal.

From then on, Bartholomew, Agnell, and Perez worked very secretly for three years and allowed no details to be revealed, according to Goal.

Their plan was completed and finalised in 2020, the year Bartholomew was forced to leave Barcelona.

Barca's new president, Joan Laporta, signed the agreement to join the Superlea when he realized the staggering amount of money the club would win in this league.

Although 10 clubs withdrew, Barcelona still believes in the project because with Real Madrid they are still officially on the Superleague list.
