The German midfielder of Fenerbahce, Mesut Ozil, has donated $120,770 to the Turkish Red Halfway for a relief campaign held during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The Turkish Red Crescent Association said in a statement yesterday that Ozil's donation will be used to secure 2,800 packages of food assistance for the poor in Turkey, 1,000 food parcels in Indonesia and 750 parcels for Muslims Roghya in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
The statement notes that iftar meals will also be served to orphans in Idlib, Syria, and Somalian capital, Mogadishu, throughout the holy month.
Turkish Red Crescent President Dr Kerem Neyck said that for years, Ozil has contributed to the spread of smiles on the faces of thousands of children in many countries.
Ozil is a Turkish-German professional footballer who previously played for Arsenal Football Club.
