The creation of European Superleague from 12 major European clubs caused unprecedented controversy and was rejected by many Sunday.
Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Livepool, Tottenham, Inter, Milan and Juventus are the 12 founding clubs of the Superlea, while another three have not yet become known.
It will have 20 clubs, 15 of which are permanent so they do not face a fall from the league, while five others secure participation each year through the qualifications.
The Superleague will be closed and will end the most famous European competition for clubs, the Champions League, if it lives.
Among its major opponents is the world football governing body FIFA.
Speaking Tuesday at UEFA Congress, chief of FIFA Infantino said: “We at FIFA can only strongly oppose the creation of the Superleague, which is a closed shop; which is separate from the current institutions; by the leagues; by UEFA; and by FIFA”.
The number one world football player added warned the clubs that joined and would join this breakaway league.
If someone chooses to choose his own path, then they must certainly suffer the consequences of his decision. They are responsible for their choices. More precisely, that means or stay, or go. You can't be half inside and half outside”, he added.
A lot will be put off for perhaps a short-term financial benefit of some. People need to think clearly. They must reflect and take responsibility”.
