Interior Affairs Minister Aleksandar Vulin has reacted after the representative of Albanians in Serbia's Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, has given an Albanian-language speech in front of other deputies of this Parliament, saying the court of this state has legalised the offensive term “siptar”.
Vulin says word “Shiptar” is not offensive, that it is a synonymous with the word “Albanian”, and according to him, Kamber must stop teaching Serbs how to speak, Tanjug reports.
Kamberi, who is a member of the United Valley - The SDA yesterday, asking a parliamentary question in Albanian, and rebuked the minister for using the term “Shiptar”
In today's reaction, Volin says he has been eagerly awaiting Camber today to say what he had, but that he did not appear in the Serbian Parliament.
Voulin added that everyone has the right to speak in their own language.
“The shipman has the right to speak in his own language. It is not accurate that he did not offer us a translation, but this speaks for himself”, Volin said.
The Albanian-language Camber reacted after the term “Shiptar” legalised with a court ruling in Belgrade.
While Vulin says he doesn't understand Albanians why they have trouble calling what their grandfather or great grandfather called, saying that “is hard to find a Serb who doesn't say Shiptar, as it is hard to find a Shiptar who doesn't say “Shiptar”.
Volin added that in the 20th century, “The shipmen changed their name three times”, and that after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, they said they were no longer Arnaut, but Shiptar and that their country was “Albania”
And their literature and grammar followed that change. Nowhere do the Arnauts write me, but the Ships. Serbs received that word from their language - literally, without translation. If you change the name of the state, people in your grammar and literature, you will start addressing each other with the English version of your country, language is a living issue, perhaps over time Serbs will start calling you that “, Volin said.
He said “Shiptar” is a synonymous for an Albanian and added that there is no hatred or insult in this, but that it is a shame that Kamber will decide how Serbs will speak.
While, during Camber's speech, representatives of the Serbian people in Serbia's Parliament began protests through noise. The chief speaker of this assembly, Ivica Dacic, asked that Camber's speech be respected under the pretext of freedom of speech.
