As in last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Majlinda Kelmendi remains the main hope of Albanians for gold medals this summer. At Grand Slamin, held at Tel Aviv of Israel, Kelmendi brought Kosovo bronze medals. In an interview for Kosovo, Kelmendi declared that 2021 has started well for it and that it will continue to prepare for the “Tokyo 2020” Olympics, which are expected to be held this year.
I actually started off in 2021, the year the Olympics will be held. In Israel I can't say that I felt so good, I don't know for myself, it hasn't gone the way I expected it. I was not well that day, nor was I physically emotional. Of course I'm happy, each medal is welcome, each point is welcome in this last Olympic cycle, in this last year, so it's generally going well, I'm really hoping... those basic preparations for the Olympics will go well. I hope I don't have a problem with injuries and I'm trusting everything's going to be okay”, Kelmendi said.
Weeks earlier, Judo coach Driton Kuka had declared that 2021 could be the last turnout for Majlinda Kelmendi in an event like the Olympics. Such a fact does not deny even Kelmendi himself, which says he will decide after the Olympic Games for its future.
No, we'll see after the Olympics, see how it goes. Of course, after the Olympics I'll have a little longer maybe, then I'll see how I feel. At this level where I find myself, it's not easy to train and keep racing when you have all the titles when you've achieved everything a sport can get to the sport, so to look after the” Olympic Games, Majlinda Kelmen noted.
