Brighton had 25 goals to target across the game, compared to just three of the Palace, but this team still had to be hired with losses thanks to an extraordinary goal by Christian Bentek in the 95th minute.
Roy Hodgson couldn't help but laugh from the bank after the Belgian launched a brilliant volley blow by concreteising the crossset of Andros Tonnas.
It was a moment of magic from Bentek and, suddenly, the Benteke strike was just the second touch of Palace within the dangerous region of Brighton in the second half.
