Northern Macedonia's request to secure coal reserves has come after the visit of the neighbouring state delegation to Kosovo.
North Macedonia has sought to secure coal reserves for its needs. This request has been made by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and ESM during the delegation's visit to Kosovo. The Kosovo Republic Economy Ministry has agreed to launch a discussion/ consultation about the modalities of a potential agreement. From the political level has been granted a goodwill approval for companies to deepen co-operation and these technical details to clarify in negotiation of”, the Ministry of Economy's response provided by Express says.
Reuters has reported that North Macedonia is planning to buy three million tonnes of coal from Kosovo to supply its thermal power plants, as lack of domestic production and rising energy prices in Europe makes it face an energy crisis.
Northern Macedonia Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi has met with Kosovo counterpart Artane Rizvanolli and KEK director Nagip Krasniqi.
Bekteshi has announced two weeks ago that negotiations have begun on the import of coal from Kosovo.
“To overcome any crisis certainly requires co-operation, and with Minister Rizvanolli we agreed that our excellent co-operation will deepen further in the future and that we will quickly overcome the challenge with the energy crisis! From today we also began negotiations on importing coal from the Republic of Kosovo, where we also presented a draft version of the memorandum for co-operation! I hope that after reviewing all the capacities and needs of both countries, we will reach to a concrete agreement on what will directly affect the excess energy crisis in both countries, Bekteshi wrote.
You still don't know the details of this deal.
