A bigger and modern Camamp Nou, two years away from him and a half billion spent on restructuring the plant. All of this in a full financial crisis, thanks to which only a few months ago, they lost the emblem of the Leonel Messi Club.
For Barcelona, the situation is chaotic, yet the club has given the green light to the restructuring of their Camp Nou stadium through a new loan of up to a billion and 500m euros to the new facility project.
Reconstruction, according to what is planned, should be completed in 2025. The stadium will most likely close for the 2023-24 season, making Barcelona play, most likely, at the Montjuice Olympic Stadium, to return to Camp Nou only in the 2024-25 season.
The renovation also includes an expansion of capacity to 105,000 spectators. The project also includes significant changes outside the stadium: new offices, green spaces, event spaces, a skating square, and a hotel, while a significant addition will be the roof covered with 30,000 square metres of solar panels. The energy generated by those panels will power a 360-degree screen that will be placed inside the stadium.
Online voting was held Sunday, and 87% of 48,623 voters supported the proposed revision of the stadium. Another 5055 voted against the project, while 875 participants abstained. The plan, dubbed Espai Barca, will be financed by a third party loan, but many members, initiated by the club's financial crisis, have expressed their concerns precisely about the financial aspect of the project.
