In response to Voice of America's question on charges made by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha to Ambassador Yuri Kim that she is acting as governor in Albania and that she supports Prime Minister Edi Rama, State Department spokesman Ned Price said “Washington is concerned by the unjustified attacks on our ambassador to Tirana. These ugly attacks do not represent the Albanian people. As Washington has directed, spokesperson Price points out, Ambassador Kim has clearly explained and implemented the policies of the United States, including President Biden's determination to hold those involved in corruption, or undermine democracy.
The United States, the spokesman further emphasises, assess relations with the Albanian people, and next year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries. Our relations, the spokesman concludes, survived communism and dictatorship due to common commitment to democracy and mutual respect.
