Osmani: Today's Serbia continues to follow Milosevic's mentality

President Vjosa Osmani has accused the official Belgrade of continuing to follow Slobodan Milosevic's old policies by becoming a tool for Russia to destabilise Kosovo and the Western Balkans, with the goal of destroying US achievements in recent decades in the region. She made these comments today a talk [...]
She made these comments today a speech on Kosovo's future in a challenging region at the (FPI) Foreign Policy Institute under the School of Advanced International Studies John Hopkins in New York.
During her speech, the first of our state said Kosovo has started building it as a state from scratch, as a result of the apartheid and the war of the Milosevic regime.
Kosovo's “toria is ultimately a story of success. How to build the state from the starting point, which was exactly what we had to do after a painful period of history and a great war the people of Kosovo had. I strongly believe that our country will move forward, including economically. Kosovo as a state has been 13 years, but at the same time there has been great progress. We are supported by our biggest allies, especially the United States. When we talk about Kosovo and its people, we mostly talk in the context of war. Various people in the world think the war in Kosovo started in 2011 when the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue started, but it is a context of this and it turns back to the time when the former Milosevic Serb elite, known as the Balkan butcher, took Kosovo's autonomous rights, violating every basic right of Kosovo citizens, starting by our right to education. I was a little kid at the time at school and we all got kicked out of our schools for the same reason, that we are not the same people as the Milosevic regime. When we were not allowed to go to school, all the parents left work, we were not allowed to pursue any civil rights or rights of culture. We've practically lived under an apartheid regime. This led to the war caused by the Milosevic regime”, Osmani has said.
Osmani has also talked about Russia's destructive policies in the Western Balkans region.
The “regime in Serbia continues to follow the same mentality, but with other strategies, with a mentality trying to establish the so-called great Serbian world. Kosovo belongs to a very challenging region where Russia has specific interests and their interest is not only the destabilisation of Kosovo, but because the Western Balkans is a region where they want to undo everything American, everything that the US has achieved in the last two decades, which are stability and democracy. Kosovo is the biggest success story in American foreign policy and Russia attacking our part of the world, is conveying the US message that it will attack the values for which the US and European countries have stood behind them in 1999 when they saved our lives. Russia has found the springboard for its impact, and this is the Government of Serbia, which continues to destabilise Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia and Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Osmani said.
